Why do people even bother applying, or working seasonal jobs during the Christmas Rush, Holidays, in retail?

which is why i hate, despise, loathe capitalism some times, because in a communist, socialist economy, society, people have a right, are owed, entitled to a job, but in a capitalist, it is the oppossite

can u say Rent, MCard, Food, Heat, Lights, Water, Transportation, Christmas presents - these are reasons to work.

What you feel is irrelevant. Many like the extra holiday cash.

They want or need money. Maybe the just need more money for the holiday season.

Some people are desperate for anything. As a hiring manager, you never want to hire anyone with large gaps in employment- if I see someone applying hasn't worked in 6 months, I assume they're lazy or an idiot, and just throw their resume out. If they were laid off, had a month unemployed, then worked at target for 60 days around Christmas, and were laid off again, I'd hire them for my software company. But months and months of unemployment? Sure, maybe unemployment benefits pay more than working at Target, but sitting around napping all day waiting for someone to call you makes you lazy. That's reason #1. I've also known stay at home moms who don't mind working a few weeks around Christmas, to pay for extra Christmas presents. Some people just really need a job, any job. ' Why anyone applies at retail at all, after age 16, confuses me. I guess some people really like the work? Farmville, Cafe World, and Skyrim testers make $16-18 an hour to start. The people who type up the hand-written census forms make $19.80 an hour. Why does anyone work retail, seriously? My first paycheck as a video game tester for EA Games was $1,170. As a low level designer, it would have been at least $1,500. My first paycheck in retail was $110 I think.

Many people work seasonal jobs, as I did for many years, to supplement income to my regular permanent full time job and receive employee discounts on items in the stores for gifts. Secondly you must be in a situation where i.e. living at home no rent, food, car or insurance plus other expenses you do not have responsibility for ; therefore, you would rather have no income then at least some money for a period of time (could be 3 -12 months) a permanent job is secured. There are people who have worked temporary, some short term and other long term, assignment being able to maintain some sort of independence and not depend on their families to fund their expenses plus gain experience.. It's good for people who don't have as much experience as others in the working environment, as well as giving them a chance to get a couple extra bucks. Others use it as a chance to get a little extra spending money; they already have a job, they just take on the additional for more.

People work these temp holiday jobs as a way to earn some extra cash. Usually these are second jobs for people. Having a few extra bucks during the holiday season can help someone, especially a parent, create a better holiday for their loved ones.
