What do they mean when they say it is a set up job?

After a job, interview, when the say they have a couple more canidates, does this mean i didnt get the job?

  • I had a job interview with a company and they said they had a few more canidates to interview this week at the end of the interview. There was no talk of salary or when I could start. ...show more

  • Answer:

It means they have already scheduled meetings with the other candidates and will make their selection after interviewing everyone. You're still in the running. They will then invite their top choices back for a second round of interviews, often with the management team. In the final round of interviews, they will probably be open to discussing salary, etc. Meanwhile, send them a thank you letter letting them know you are still interested in the job... and keep looking for other jobs in case you don't get this one.

Bingo, this is the classic brush off, happened to me last week, thought I was perfect for the job, thought the interview went well, and then I heard "we'll be reviewing more resume's before we make a decision". Keep looking, if they dont hire you on the spot, forget it.

Companies will usually complete their interviews and discuss the potential employees. You may be called in for a 2nd interview. (depending on the company) In my experience that is when salary etc. is discussed. Don't forget they still may need to check references and maybe do a background check. Give it 1-2 weeks. If you are anxious you could do a casual follow up phone call on Monday. In my case (a hospital) it took weeks to go through the hiring process with all the paperwork and background checks. GOOD LUCK!!

No, it means they have more candidates to interview. Usually isn't any talk of salary or benefits at a first interview as it's a getting to know you and deciding if they want to continue to persue you as a viable candidate. They could leave you hanging for months and then call you back for a 2nd interview, or not even call you back at all. Hopefully you sent them a thank you letter.

Nope, they are being honest. I tell that to people too. In the professional world, you will go through 2-3 or more interviews before they offer you the position. Sit tight and follow up next week with a nice email.

Assume you didn't get the job and make more interview appointments. I hate to tell you but it is one of those lines and while it may be true, I wouldn't hold my breath. If this is a really good job, follow up with a thank you letter (not an email, please!). That really gets attention.

It just means that they're not finished with the interview process and want to talk with all potiential candidates.

Bob-O

they are looking at all candidates but it wouldn't hurt to call back so they know you are still interested.

Well, it could mean that they do have more people to interview... but the disturbing part was no talk of salary or a start date. Those are 2 very important factors that should have been discussed... I wouldn't hold my breath.

it is possible that u did not make a great impression, and that they are not decided that the job is for you.
