Is it unprofessional to contact a potential employer after the interview?

Is it ok to contact a potential employer after the interview?

  • I went to a job interview exactly one week ago today. I really want this job, because I feel its going to help me further in my carreer however I have not heard from them and I would ...show more

  • Answer:

Candy, Absolutely! I hope you have already sent an email or thank you card as well. This shows interest as well as all those questions you asked at the end of the interview. Some employers take weeks or months to respond after an interview but many don't contact you at all....leaving you in a deep void. So pick up the phone or start emailing, this is not the time to be passive. Good luck!

I have always sent a personally handwritten thank you to the person that interviewed me. Thank them for their time and tell them that it was a pleasure to talk about________ ( mention something that you discussed during the interview.) It helps you to stand out from the crowd if you show that their time was valuable to you!! Good luck!!

A thank you letter is appropriate, but remember they are busy people and if you contact them it will put them off. This won't be the only opportunity for you, and there may be someone more qualified for the position. Work hard at your current job and have patience and you will get to where you want to be. Also, I would advice you consider investing a portion of your money wisely as this will help you build up at least a small comfort zone for hard times. Just a little extra piece of advice.

The others answered you but I will add - don't email, it's too informal for this purpose.

you should at least write them a thank you letter

It has been a week. I would definitely call. As everyone mentioned, hope you sent out a thank-you note or a thank-you email. Just for future reference, at the end of the interview, always ask them by what day approximately would they be making a decision and whether they'd be calling you or you need to call them. This way, you will know what to expect and when to expect. Goodluck!

If you haven't already done so, you should send a follow up note thanking them for the interview. This can be done with an e-mail or by hand. The purpose is to let them know that you appreciated the time they took to meet with you. After you have sent that note, wait a couple of days for it to be received and then go ahead and call them. If you have already sent that note, you can call them today. If you get voicemail, please don't just leave a generic message (This is Candy Smith and I'm wondering about the job I interviewed for...). Leave a message that makes an impression (but keep it short)... Hello (Interviewers Name). This is Candy Smith and I was calling to find out if you are any closer to making a decision about the (job name or position) I interviewed for. I lwas thinking about the part of the interview where we discussed (important thing discussed) and wanted to make myself available for any further questions or follow up. Please feel free to contact me at (phone number). Thank you. Good Luck!

41 cent path to this job. Write a 3-paragraph letter 1. thank them for the interview and you realize they are in decision now. 2. 3-points which qualify you well for this position 3. Thanks again and will provide any information if necessary
