In a job interview: What is the best answer when asked on weakness?

What is the best answer to, "What is your greatest weakness?" when asked during a job interview?

  • Answer:

there is not best answer to this... Everybody's weeknesses are different. the key here is to pick one of the things about yourself that you'd most like to change, then tell them about it, but also tell them that you would like to have the opportunity to work on it (as an example, I'm not very assertive, so I mention that and that I would like to work on improving that part of me... Most companies will probably know of training and courses to help and so can get you on track). The long and short of it is that everybody has weaknesses, all are different, so saying at an interview that you have none is a bad move as it makes you look cocky and they know you are lying... What they want to hear is some honesty, but also a willingness to do something to fix those weaknesses... Just go with that, and you'll have no problems!

Why somebody has to have a weakness when it comes to work? I think this question is not quite correct! Whenever I'm asked what is my weakness, I reply (with an angel smile) :"chocolate" and then explain that I'm intelligent person and I control myself, that's why when it comes to job I don't have any...;)

I point out what has been precieved as my biggest weak point(s). Then I point out what I have done/ or are in the process of doing to correct said weakness. This shows that you recognize problems, take critisism constructively, and it shows that you fix problems. This is an honest way to answer this question, but make yourself look good at the same time.

I try

Whatever your answer, you want to phrase it so your weakness sounds like a strength. If you get frustrated, say that sometimes you care too much. If you can't phrase your weakness to sound like a strength, just be honest. Honesty is in short supply these days.

honesty is always the best answer. and explain what you are doing to improve on it. let them know you realize the deficiency and are committed to overcoming it. for example... my greatest weakness is stubborness. but I recognize it and always tell myself to be open to others opinions, and be sure to use logic and not bull-headedness to determine the right course to follow. think about your answer and find a way to explain that you're making it into a strength
