Is Lawyer the career for me?

What lawyer skills are worth highlighting in a resume during a major career change?

  • I'm 26 and a new lawyer. I've only been practicing for 6 months but the last couple of months have been filled with doubt as to whether I'm in the right field. This was further aggravated when the partners of my firm decided to fire me when they found out I was planning to resign. Needless to say, aside from hating the lawyer life, I was also traumatized by the law firm environment. I'm planning on starting a new professional life and was wondering what aspects of being a lawyer is advantageous in most fields?

  • Answer:

I am currently in a room with three professionals with law degrees. One is an assistant DA, one is in private practice, and one works for the state in a non-legal capacity. I asked them your question and got this response: On your resume-- Writing, research, analytical skills In your interview-- perserverance with completing law school, being honest with potential employers that you are now seeking something that better aligns with your interests. Good luck! Find something that supports you and lets you help the world :)
