    If it's just 1 mistake and she doesnt normally do it and you've known her for years then just let her off for god's sake! it's only £16 and u said urself she wouldnt steal so it was just ana accident. just have a quiet word with her so she doesnt do it again. But if she's been with u for years as a good employee why would u want to take £16 off her? jesus!! u can afford it more than her! You're like ian beale!!

First, are you sure that your readings were correct? Did something not get voided that should have? Was she the only one with access and use of the drawer? Was the drawer verified to be the right amount of money at the start of the day? Do you have an agreement with her that she will pay back any shortage and that overages will be returned to her? If the answer is yes to all the above then it would be legal. But it sounds like maybe you don't fell that would be the right thing to do?

if you trust her WHY dock her pay well she could have had a over ring to start may be gave the wrong change / too much i would maybe watch for this reoccurring again if it happens again i would take to the office and have a quiet word sometimes its better Friend than foe .. and you sound like a nice person good luck hope this help s

you have no proof she stole from you-you state you have doubts -known for years so why ask question-don`t do it! you/her have to work with each other afterwards. will probably cause `friction` between you and as i`ve stated-may have been another person or `total` wrong. don`t end up with egg on your face. you the boss/employer-your business acumen is in question to me!
