How can companies tell you, you need to pay for Criminal Record Check?

I was looking at jobs and one was for a nursing home and asked for a CRC Criminal Record Check it said expense to be made by applicant??? why should the applicant need to pay for it ...show more

Answer:
It used to be that the prospective employer paid for it but now more and more companies are requiring the candidate to pay. Some will refund the cost if it is clear and the applicant is hired. I don't know why this is becoming more and more common, possibly because of the number of undisclosed skeletons in applicants cupboards?

The cash has to accompany the form. The CRB are not particularly bothered whose cash it is. Do you really want to work for such a cheapskate employer? They'll probably expect you to pay your own wages.

Any decent company would pay for it, as you say its them that require it I've got an enhanced disclosure check and my company paid for mine They should only ask for one if they decide to employ you, and not before, or they could make it a condition of employment that your CRB comes back clear.

They can legally require you to pay tor it, but it's a lot more common that the company would pay for it.

Depends on the employer - most pay but many do not as staff turnover can be high. Ask if you can be reimbursed after probationary period - no harm in asking but if you really want the job, it should not be a problem. If you are not currently working and get benefits, ask at the Job Centre as at one time, they would pay for this.

A decent employer pays for all background and fingerprinting checks

Not that unusual in the UK. My husband was a catering manager in a care home and he had to pay for his. I work for HMP and they paid for mine.
