It depends what you mean by 'lawyer'. This is a generic term that covers a range of professions. To become a Solicitor or Barrister you will need to go to university, having done A'levels (any subjects, Law not essential) and obtained strong grades. A Law degree would be best, but you can opt to do a non-Law degree and then do a conversion course (but this route is more expensive). After this the entry route differs according to whether you wish to become a Solicitor or a Barrister. Another option, which is not degree entry, is to train to become a Legal Executive, possibly have done an ILEX course at a local college, or gaining employment with a firm of solicitors and then accessing training through them. I'd suggest you check www.connexions-direct.com and then click on the 'Jobs4U' for more information on legal careers.

You need a degree either in any subject and then transfer to 2 years law school. Or do a law degree and then do 1 year law school. You need at least 2.1 to get into law school especially bpp is the best one.

It depends on whether you want to become a Barrister or Solicitor. Either way, to become any one of these you must first complete your LLB Law Degree at a University. This is a 3 year course (however Staffordshire Uni offer it as a 2 year fast track course.) Then after this 3 year period, you will have probably decided whether you want to be a barrister or solicitor. If you want to be a Barrister you do your Bar Vocational Course for a year at university (however you get no public funding for this). Or to be a solicitor you do your Legal Practice Course of a year at university (again no public funding available.) After that you complete your 2 year training contract (for a solicitor) or your pupillage in a Barrister's Chambers (for a Barrister). If you become the latter you also have to partake in various social events spread across the calendar year such as dinners etc to obtain a certain number of points required to pass.

Lawyer? You mean solicitor or barrister. You need a law degree first before you can apply for further training.
