How do you keep cut sunflowers from wilting? How do you prepare them for the vase, they are fresh from a field?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:
Keep them in cold water, add ice if necessary. Keep them out of direct sunlight, and when you prepare them for the vase, cut your stems at a 45 degree angle while they are under still water. Hold them there for a few seconds and transfer them immediately to your vase with water. The cold water will keep them in the growth stage they were in when cut, preserving them for a little while longer. But remember cut flowers do not last forever. Go to a craft store and look for preservatives for them, or you can try pressing them and using them in an art project. Good Luck.
