You are entitled to 20 mins unbroken rest break for every six hours worked . This 20 mins must not be at the start or end of the shift. If you are required to wear a uniform i.e food factory, then time must be added on to allow you to change in and out of your uniform. If you work nights and your work is repetative then your employer should be giving you more breaks to allow for your body clock to adjust but this is not a legal requirement. Do you have a union in the workplace? if so get them involved if not then you would be advised to see about joining one (but it would need a large majority in the workplace to join to be affective) or your other option is get another job.

Hello, I used to manage a large workforce and unless the rules have changed, I'm sure it is 15mins break for every 4hrs worked. Therefore you'd be due 45mins break on a 12hr shift.

www.acas.co.uk will tell you for every 6 hours you work you are entitled to a paid 20 minute break, any other breaks will not be paid for.

for 8hrs you get a half hr lunch and 15 min break so if you work 12hrs you should get two 15min breaks and a half hr for lunch. betty.

If I remember correctly ever 4 hours you work you are legally entiled to a 15 minute break. I believe if you work over 6 hours you are entiled to a 30 minute lunch break. To make sure you could contact the CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau), your HR department or your union if you are in one. Working 12 hours with no break is illegal, it breaks the working hours directive I think its called. As mentioned before though, check your contract carefully to make sure theres nothing in there that states about not being entitled to breaks.

Difficult to say ..look at your contract. I used to work 12 hour shifts for the NHS..I was amazed that i was not entitled to any breaks. I had presumed that was illegal, but seems not.
