Why do people eat ham for Easter?

Wasn't Jesus Jewish? To me it doesn't really make sense, so just a brief explanation is fine. Bonus Question: Why do people make a religion after Jesus if he was a Jew? Why ...show more

Answer:
Easter is related to the story of Tammuz. There are different versions but the basics are that Nimrod was killed by a wild boar. After his death his wife goes into the underworld and becomes pregnant by him (virgin birth?) and then gives birth to Tammuz who is really Nimrod (Jesus =G-d) in the spring (Easter), hence the bunny and the eggs which are symbols of fertility. The ham is eaten in memory of Nimrod at his rebirth.

We eat ham because it symbolizes Christ ending the old (Kosher laws being a part of them) covenant and starting a new covenant. Christianity is the fulfillment of Judaism. Christ came to save everyone and invite everyone to be in heaven with Him forever and not just the Jews. That is why the dietary parts of the old covenant (as well as circumcision, etc...) were ended - so that the Gentiles (all of us non-Jews) who accept Christ could join the new Church and the new covenant that doesn't focus so much on bloodline. The Jewish people are the Chosen People in that the Messiah, Jesus the Christ, was born from their population. After that, we are now ALL God's people who are saved by Him - who is His Son. God the Father, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit - all ONE GOD within three divine persons. God bless you.
Easter marks the release of their obligation of Lent. Today Lent usually means them giving up something to join their deity in suffering, but it used to be done because in an agricultural society, people had to stop eating off the animals for a while to give them a chance to reproduce. They would let the eggs grow to chickens instead of eating them, milk goes to the calves and lambs, pigs get to reproduce. By Easter the next generation of farm animals is established and they can eat eggs, meat, and dairy again. Please note that smart pastoral people usually did this on their own worldwide, and was simply formalized by Christianity; they didn't invent it. Ham was one of the cured meats that lasted them through the winter, and when the admonition against meat was lifted, it was the most delectable of the salted meats and was often the first choice to feast on.

Jesus is the Son of God... who was betrayed for Jewish Pharisees... From what I read in the New Testament, several times, Jesus was not opposed to eating ham... And, ham tastes very good... Try some one of these days... It does the body good and it goes good with Easter Eggs... I am a Christian... and I will never be Jewish... I believe in obeying the golden rule not hording gold...

Jesus was ethnically Jewish but he did come to start something new. So yeah, if you read the New Testament it will become clearer why Christianity is a different religion from Judaism.
