Where did easter start?

My family has never gotten together on Easter, but now I have grandkids, and I'd like to start a family Easter

    In our family, outside of the egg hunts-Easter dinner was provided at around 12:30 and Mom usually fixed a ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, gravy, deviled eggs, a coconut cake and a chocolate cake--these were the basics and she added or took away different things through the years--as she got older she kept the basics except dessert and the family brought the potluck..The ones who went to church either dropped off their dishes before church or brought them afterwards--but always the egg hunt for the children--the kids evetually decided to make a game of destroying the eggs by using them as basketballs(none of the kids were crazy about eggs unless they were deviled)

We cook a lot!! Easter is so much fun for the little ones, if it's raining we just hide the eggs inside! I always cook a ham and bake a big chicken too. I do the deviled eggs and a huge salad and have some different types of bread with my homemade herb butter. My girls usually bring side dishes of green beans, potato salad and cheese & olive trays. Others bring deserts. It is usually a very large buffet and it is a wonderful tradition for all of us. You won't be sorry if you do this!!!

We always have a big ham dinner at home and then the kids hunt eggs but my grandma makes 1 egg that we call the lucky egg. It's an old panty hose container that is egg shaped and it has a $20 bill in it and extra candy. :) ALso we take a family picture every year.

We hid plastic easter eggs when the grandkids were little...some were filled with candy and some had money. Then we watched a movie while a nice traditional ham was cooking. How about taking the family to church?
