Does the easter bunny hide the eggs?

Why does the Easter Bunny Hide Eggs? Is there any connection?

  • i know what the bunny represents. and i know what the egg represents. but why does the bunny hide the egg?

  • Answer:

FIrstly it is nothing to do with any pagan goddess who was actually invented in the 18/19th century. The connection between bunny and egg is probably down to an old folk myth, joke or saying about hares. Hares (which look like large rabbits) do not burrow, they make nests a bit like a bird's nest. So someone would, as a joke, tell someone that a nest with eggs in it was actually a hare's nest or send out children to search for hare's eggs - a turn of phrase meaning something impossible (like a blue moon). The joke is, of course, even better if you leave out some real hen's eggs for the children to find. The joke has been forgotten, but the game remains.

so that kids can go look for them, it's fun and just a game and tradition. No deep meaning behind it.

The bunny hides the egg so little kiddies can run around trying to find it, giving them more enjoyment and keeping them out of the adults' hair as they spend the afternoon in the garden, self-entertained.

The bunny is a German tradition, but looking for the eggs is a much older pagan fertility rite of Ishtar, the ancient Assyrian and Babylonian "mother goddess" or counterpart to Baal. The Hebrews refer to her as the goddess of the Sidonians. The Phonecians called her Astarte. A.K.A. Astoroth, Astoreth, Isis, Aphrodite, and Demeter. The idea behnd looking for the egg is that you can't fertilize an egg till you first find it. So the customs range from searching for eggs, rolling eggs, and my favorite, a good ol' fashioned orgy. I think if people really want to celebrate Easter right , ya gotta bring back the orgy,

Rabbits and eggs are pagan fertility symbols of extreme antiquity. Birds lay eggs and rabbits give birth to large litters in the early spring these became symbols of the rising fertility of the earth during the spring season. Since Easter also occurs in the early spring, people brought the beloved pagan symbols into the Christian celebration of Easter. These pagan symbols have become part of the Christian tradition. They do not take anything away from the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and they add to the celebration. Christianity has frequently absorbed the positive and neutral elements of pagan religions while leaving the negative symbols behind, similar to Christmas trees and Halloween costumes. With love in Christ.
