Why does the Easter bunny carry eggs? Rabbits don't lay eggs.?

  • Answer:

The same reason why a "Fairy" would give you money for an old tooth, a fat man named Santa couldn't possibly fit down any chimney, so on and son, because we make these silly things up instead of Celebrating the real reasons for them. Example, Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ, Easter, the day Jesus rose from the dead, and the tooth fairy is nothing other than what it is.

Both the bunny (hare) and the egg are fertility symbols, and their use in the rites and festivals of spring hark back into pagan times. Spring is a time of fertility and prosperity and its thought that the inclusions of these symbols would sympathetically impart the fertility and prosperity associated with them, to the people taking part in the festivities. This is why the easter bunny is associated with eggs. there are also records from as far back as babylonia, of people dying eggs special colours at this time of year.

Been asked loads of times. There is no historical evidence that this is anything to do with any supposed ancient pagan tradition. The bunny originated in Europe as a hare. The connection between hares and eggs almost certainly arose because hares do not live in burrows, like rabbits, but live above ground. They raise their young in nests (called forms) which look a lot like some bird's nests. So someone once pointed out the young hares in a nest and, perhaps as a joke, said "Look, the hare's eggs have hatched". The eggs are a present at Easter because Christians traditionally fasted from eggs and meast durin gthe time before Easter called Lent.

Doesn't actually carry them, just hides them. My niece has a rabbit and we put an egg down on the floor in front of it. The bunny was curious and started pushing and playing with it. Sure enough it pushed it into a corner under the sofa quite effectively hiding the egg. But it never actually carried it. At least while we were watching. -lol

Easter has nothing to do with bunnies, either....or eggs! So I guess if you're fantasizing Easter from it's significance of recognizing the crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, You can create any kind of superficial fantasy entities you like and make up any kinds of stories you like to detract from the real reason Easter should be celebrated....It still won't change what Easter is really about.
