How to become a Public Notary in California?

I live in California and I would like to become a Notary Public. Does anyone have any information for me?

  • A job that I am applying for requires the applicant be a Notary.

  • Answer:

Every state does it differently - even every county does it differently - at least in Ohio that's the way it is. I would suggest that you call your local (usually county) bar association. They should be able to tell you how you can become a Notary Public. Usually the bar association is responsible for testing the Notary Publics - the Secretary of State just "approves" the applicants that were obtained by the bar association. Good luck.

Most states issue notary public certificates thru the Office of the Sec. of State. Would assume the # is in your local government "blue" pages. The will send you the application and you compelte and return with a small check. Since the Sec. of State is offically the corporations record keepers in most states, I can imagine of no reason that CA would be different.
