Nervous about my first day on a the first job?

I am on the first day of my job and felt so nervous. Do you think my boss will give me time to settle down?

  • I just started today and felt so nervous like anything on the first day. New environment, new people, new things. My boss saw it in my voice and nervousness. Do you think he will be ...show more

  • Answer:

Everyone is nervous when they are put into a new environment and they have to become competent in doing new tasks (simple and complex) in a short space of time . If your voice and general nervousness gave this away then this will disappear as you get more confident in the new tasks you are doing. Most places give you anywhere between two weeks to three months (depending on the type of job) before they tell you to your face you are handicapped. If your boss does not give you at least two weeks it means they have a personality problem and feel the need to put people down in order to feel better....meaning they lack confidence themselves and maybe it is not so bad if you don't work there in the future

Welcome to the corporate world. Now, being nervous is just a human reaction to the unchartered corporate waters that you have dealt into. But be sure that you are equipt of all the things that you need to know. LEARN as fast as you can. TALK to your co-employees. Initially, be an underdog, be kind to everybody because you really do not know, who will be your allies and enemies. Your boss will give you time to settle down, but it will not take months, because the company is paying you to work and be an asset to the company. Please do love your job and everything will be all well and lastly, ask for guidance. Pray. May the Spirit be with you, always. Kudos!
