  • Answer:

To become a secretary or receptionist in professional careers, such as dental, medical, and law offices, there should be a descent amount of knowledge that you will have to know beforehand. Knowing basic terms in the field is essential. For example, taking Biology AP should be sufficient for a HS graduate who works as a receptionist. While typing speed is important, delivering good content and quality information to the office and managers is extremely important.

No, all you need is a GED (or high school diploma). You also don't need to type quickly. I type at 10 wpm and I'm doing well. You don't need many other qualifications either; you should be fine. Good luck! This message took me like half an hour to type 0.o

I would advise to take some courses Microsoft Office in which you can become fluent with Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. These software applications are essential when typing documents, spreadsheets, sending e-mails and scheduling appointment as well presentations which you may need to do for proof-reading and editing documents. The first person who stated that typing at 10 WPM is not going to get you through, your typing should be at least 55 WPM with few errors. You can practice typing on your own time and use of a software called "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing". Also other tasks that may include filing, taking notes, ordering tickets for traveling or car rides, occasionally filling in for another administrative personnel and the receptionist. Check with any vocational/technical schools or colleges in which you can assist in your career for administrative work, also you may want to volunteer as well. Good luck.
