How do you negotiate a job offer?

I just received a job offer. I need help on how to negotiate compensation?

    You are in a far better position to negotiate the full amount before you start. However, as a backup plan, you could look to the future increase. If you go for the future increase, get it "in writing" as part of your employment agreement. I FAR prefer getting the max up front. It is difficult for you to go down after that. As for negotiating a large severance arrangement, that is very unlikely, unless you are in the top echelon of C-level staff. You will likely get the statutory requirement offered by the business based on laws in your area. Given the current economy, you need to prepare your SOLID and undeniably backed up and clear case for your full salary request.
