What does no RIO on a job posting mean?

What does it mean when a job posting says "paid as a sub contractor"?

  • does it mean getting paid cash? thats just my guess but anyone with the right answer would be very helpful. thanks!

  • Answer:

It means that you are reponsible for all of your own taxes, the company gives you a check and it is your job to handle the state and fed taxes. You just have to be responsible to put that money away. every time you get a check, put 30% of it in savings until the end of the year when you have to file your taxes, do not spend that money or you will be in trouble. Your accountant can tell you more

Other answers

It means that you work as an independent and not an employee on the company's payroll. You would give them a bill for your services. At least that's been my experience with sub contractors I've hired/paid.

The company does not list you as a regular employee, You are responsible to pay all your taxes, your benefits, your pension account. If you desire to accept such a position, you had better make provision in your pay scale to cover the items mentioned.

Also, legally, a sub-contractor cannot be told HOW to do the job outside of the stipulations of the contract itself.

Wishful Spirit

Usually means that you will receive none of the benefits of the regular full time employees of that job. You won't be paid cash under the table, you just won't get any vacation pay, sick leave, health insurance, or retirement plan that the regular employees might be getting. In other words, they want you to work for less.
