What are some typical questions asked at an interview?

  • I have an interview for a 6 month contract admin job for government and was wondering what some of the questions they would ask? When I got my first job at 16 they asked me things ...show more

  • Answer:

Before you go to the interview, do a little research about the company, office, division, or what-not. Keeping in mind something intelligent that you can ask the interviewer about getting more clarification. It makes you appear interested and assertive. The toughest question asked is: What would you consider to be your weakness. Refrain from saying something inappropriate: Cookies are my weakness, my dog... Get the picture? Also, a serious interviewer doesn't want their *** kissed either, so answering with something that is actually a strength is not desired either. An example of this might be: My weakness is being a perfectionist, or being over-organized. This question is tricky, but give an honest answer related to the job duties and consider how you will work on overcoming the weakness.

a lot of times employers will try to get a grasp of how you work with others so they ask things like. . . explain a time you have exhibited leadership within a team? When there are conflicts within a team how do you handle them? Are you a patient individual? They will also ask a lot of 'describe a situation in which. . . ' so think of different situations that you could talk about teamwork, dilemmas, problem solving etc. etc.

The number one question interviewers are asking these days: "In this economy, why do you think you deserve this job?" Followed by: -What were your previous jobs? -Where are you living? -Do you have any experience? etc The substance of your response to these questions doesn't really matter. What matters is that you don't appear rattled by the question and that you deliver a poised and confident response.

A typical question would be how did a fool like you even make our shortlist.
