Hi, I'm currently applying for my first job, but I have no experience to put in the experience section. What do I put there?

Answer:
The purpose of a resume is to give detailed information about the education and jobs you have held. Since you have not worked for anyplace you need to complete an application

When applying for your first job employers don't required or expected a resume because you don't have anything pertinent to put in one. On the application under employment you can list any volunteer work you've done. Volunteer work is quite impressive to employers because if a person is willing to work without pay it shows they're motivated, committed, & responsible which are desirable qualities in an employee. If you haven't done any volunteer work either then you'll obviously have to leave it blank.

When you don't have experience, you highlight your own strengths. This means showing the traits that you have that the manager is looking for for the position desired. Punctuality is almost always a good one. In today's workforce, dependability is another very good one. List instances where you have shown these characteristics before, school, clubs, etc. Your references are now going to be very important. Make sure you ask them ahead of time if it is acceptable to be used as a reference. Explain to them your situation and what you are needing of them. This is will ensure that when they are called for the reference, they can give you the best one to make sure you have the best chances of getting hired. Good luck.

When applying for a job, it's always best to tweak your resume each time. In doing so, think about what the hiring manager really needs: Someone who always arrives before their scheduled shift on time. Someone who is a sharp/quick learner. Someone who will go beyond the call of duty, etc. You may have been involved with school activities, volunteer/community activities, sports awards, church activities, clubs, etc., where you can illustrate your accomplishments and contributions. Don't be afraid to list the things you've achieved even if they haven't been related to a paying job. Good luck!!!
