Some communities have youth employment programs. As a society, we have an urgent need to encourage young people that are ambitious. Fact is, you can help yourself by promoting the value you offer a business as being more than the hourly wage they pay you. It might be frustrating to go door-to-door so let's think of some more creative ways to get you in front of business owners and managers. Go to your local Chamber of Commerce and inquire about joining and attending their meetings. Chambers are all about promoting their members and encouraging networking. Typically, they will have you introduce yourself as a new member--try to do this at one of their larger breakfast meetings. I was at such a meeting and we had the normal introduction of maybe 10 new members, each gave a brief discription of their company and their respective roles. The last introduction was a young lady that read her resume. The crowd was stunned. At the networking break there was a long line of people giving her their cards and offering her jobs on the spot. Try it. You could look into local non-profit organizations and apply as a volunteer. You might be amazed at the connections you make this way. Think of it. You are working alongside people that are trying to help their community...including you.. If your community doesn't have many opportunities for youth, you might look into organizing your own non-profit to meet that need. Again, your efforts won't go un-noticed. Being a non-profit doesn't mean that you can't earn money in the process. Part of a non-profit budget includes salaries and wages for staff.
