Where can I learn more about becoming a Pastry Chef?

I have a long life dream of becoming a pastry chef and owning a bakery of my own. Can I do it?

    Think very carefully about this...i mean this is going to be ur career! You want to make sure you really want to do this.. I also agree with Ryan M.. You really gotta LOVE and have great passion for this job..you don't do it because you like baking at home... Just ask yourself~ do you really want to spend all that money on culinary school? I mean culinary schools are veryyy expensive! > < Also there's alotta heavy lifting, waking up veryy early, almost no holidays/vacations, very low pay, physical/mental stress(if u've ever worked at a restaurant..you'll know what I mean!)... Also it's very hard to get a job right out of culinary school..you'd be very lucky if do get one...you might end up working at bakeries in grocery stores for awhile! This sounds cliche..but the only thing that will keep you alive in this industry is your passion! Its true! Sorry to burst your bubble...but its reality...i totally understand bcuz I also have been thinking about becoming a pastry chef..and I'm majoring in Bio as well! :) I love working with my hands and love food chemistry! But i also want to make sure I can support myself financially in the future.. I mean dont get me wrong..im still thinkging abt doing it but I want to keep my options open! :) If it's sth you really wish to do then go ahead! Anything is possible!! But make sure if you DO decide to go to a culinary school make sure they hav externship programs(thats where the school lets you work at restaurants/hotels before u actually graduate!) hope I helped!
