You don't cook for money, you cook because you love cooking, or food. Depends on what you consider good money..... it doesn't matter if your a good cook at home. Can you be consistently recreating what the chef wants you to make 160 times a night? Making good food at home is a lot different than making it thousands of times each week. Most of the chefs I know make less than $50000 a year and work 10+ days on their feet. One week my friend averaged his hourly pay ona salary check and found he actually made less than minimum wage because of all the time he put in.

Yes, you can make good money being a Chef. In order to see if you would like it or not, I would recommend trying to be a cook in a Chili's, TGIF, hotel resteraunt etc. to see how the head Chef/Cook operates, what the hours and expectations are. If you like it, then give Cullinary School a shot. If you don't, then you saved a ton aof cash and can rethink your career path. Good Luck

I agree with the Top Contributor's response that a chef's income isn't there. A recent federal registry salary survey lists entry level chef salarys starting at $25,000 per year! And you expect to repay the heafty student loans often amounting to $50,000 plus. Good luck!

not ever tasting your food, i can't tell you what the right move would be here... however, i can tell you that with a degree from a culinary arts institute, you can definitely go places in a career as a chef. since it allows you to focus on various different types of cooking, for example, baking arts, etc. you become more specialized in that field. the money will be higher for someone with a degree from one of these places rather than someone right off the street. it's also going to depend on the city you live in and the type of restaurant you end up working at.

Absolutly not. I hardly know how to cook. Now you might, if you go to the right chef training school.

It depends on what you mean by "good money." The average ones make less than $50,000 per year (not good money, by my definition).
