Is owning your own catering company or working in catering a degrading job?

I understand if Indian culture feels that 'serving people food' is degrading (though I don't agree with it one bit!) but starting a catering business is definitely not degrading. making money is not degrading. being a boss is not degrading. if starting a catering business is your thing, you should go ahead and do it!

why would you start a business doing that if you thought it was degrading? food industry in the US employs a tremendous number of people - would you rather starve to death and have no job if nothing else was available?

Considering the wonderful dishes prepared in India - how could they think it was degrading - that attitude is a hold over from 100 years ago - In the US if the food is good - they get business

Making money is not degrading. When I was younger my wife and I cleaned up houses that were in for-closure. Some people made fun----until they found out how much the bank was paying us.
