How do you separate sales opportunities from business development opportunities in Salesforce?

As a BD professional, I'd like to keep track of my ongoing outreach and conversations in Salesforce, but I don't want BD Leads & Opportunities to be commingled with Sales Leads & Opportunities. How do others keep those separate inside of Salesforce?

There are multiple ways to do this based on your Salesforce account as well as the structure of your organization. If you have multiple user accounts, you can assign records based on whether a BDR/SDR or sales rep is handling the lead or opportunity.Or, if you have entirely different reps working BD and sales, you can keep all of your records as leads until they are ready to transition into sales. In our organization, we only convert leads to opportunities once we have a set appointment for our sales reps.
