What is the best way to make a good first impression on a job interview?

By being prepared. Know about the company and the position that is being offered. Research the company on the web if you can. Know their products, customers, revenues. Know the name of the person(s) with whom you will interview and how it is spelled and pronounced (ask the receptionist if you need to.) Prepare yourself as well - dress appropriately and appear well groomed. Display a command of your native language that doesn't include the words, "you know" as a modifier. Smile and proffer a firm handshake. Bring extra copies of your resume and refrences in case you end up speaking to additional people. Good luck!

You yourself, be professional, know what you are interviewing for and for the love of pete, know what the company does. People I interview don't do their research and that is vital these days.

Hm... there's just too many little things. Show them you can do the job. At the same time, create a warm camaraderie between you and the interviewer. But be careful not to get too casual. Take the position seriously, but become comfortable. Be who you are. Relax. Treat it as a dialogue. Remove as much nervousness as possible. Be warm. Be the person they'd wanna work with everyday. Be competant, and be a genuinely good person. Dress in a killer way. A firm handshake is always a great 1st impression. So is a smile. So is being there on time. But don't try too hard. It's a delicate balance of many small things. The results might not be totally under your control, but whatever it is you can control, you should be your best at it. Making a great first impression is mostly applying common sense and not being timid about promoting yourself. 1) Dress well (business professional...regardless of the position that you are applying for -- your dress sends the message you are serious about the position). 2) Research the business you are applying to (know about products, history, staff). 3) Rehearse answers for questions you are likely to encounter ... such as a) why are you a great candidate for this position? b) what are your strengths?, weaknesses? 4) Be prepared with questions about the business or position (e.g. what are the most important characteristics you look for in a new employee?) 5) Conclude the interview by asking "What reservations do you have about me filling your open position?" This question will uncover any unresolved questions that you may be able to answer on the spot. 6) Send a written, snail mail, thank you note to the interviewer. Before applying for the job,do research on the type of work you're looking for. Dress neatly and wear the proper attire(suit and tie). Be on time,better yet,arrive a little early than your appointed time. Look your interviewer in the eye when he/she is speaking to you ,and also when answering their questions. DO NOT add "You Know" to the end of a sentence when answering. Speak clearly DO NOT show up with your kid(s). Use a good amount of breath mints before the interview. Nothing ruins it like speaking to someone with bad hygeine or bad breath. Thank you interviewer and when you shake their hand ,do it in a firm manner,NOT the "Vise Grip".(And look them in the eye too).
