Small businesses and disabled access?

Would a cloud coaching program for small businesses that focuses on building more profits and have access to the coach via the cloud at anytime be useful to small business owners and if so what type of small businesses?

  • Answer:

There's various kinds of group coaching, mastermind, and similar programs around - and some of them can be successful.  And of course MANY coaches offer their services over the phone and Skype (I do) and it's received very well. I don't know that calling it "cloud coaching" would be very compelling, though - the two concepts wouldn't seem to have much overlap.  And it talks about how the service is DELIVERED, rather than why it has VALUE to the client. I would start off with figuring out how and why this delivers compelling value to your clients.  Is it because they're forming a virtual group of trusted colleagues?  Is it because they can get advice-on-demand for a fixed cost?  Is it because there's deep expertise in a particular industry? The word "coaching" doesn't describe the value received by the client, nor does "cloud."  So I'd work on the exact value proposition, which will be strongly linked to the particular clients you want to serve.  Right now the answer to your question might be "no one" or "anyone".

I am not a small business owner, but I have some friends who are. I am aware that in the industry that I work for (IT), few things are happening: 1. Many SOHO owners are looking for an easy way to receive professional services, including education/coaching, to develop their product, maximize their profit, and cut down the IT cost. 2. These SOHO owners realize that the technology have been growing much faster than they could catch up, or even able to convert the cost to profit. They are under-educated, their understanding of technology such as social network, mobile/wireless/cloud computing, MOOC,  etc. are limited. But they really like to gain knowledge to grow their business. 3. These business owners do not want, neither do they have a plan, to keep any in-house IT staff. They usually contract with local IT consulting to take care their business. But with 24x7 broadband internet, they don't even need any local IT consulting service. 4. They are looking for a global platform to provide IT services the way consumer get songs from iTune with fair price and good rating system. Cloud based coaching would help to help their employees to stay competitive. These SOHO business are everywhere, professionals such as lawyers, accountants, optometrists, dentist, are just a few examples. I believe that before mid-century, there will be someone like Steve Jobs, who had convert the music industry to iTune platform, this entrepreneur however,  will build an Eco system, focus on converting the entire IT service industry to a global resource, connect supply to demand using Internet. With this global IT platform, knowledge worker will be able to work freely, anywhere at anytime, to provide service to anyone in any language. The individual and service/expertise will be rated with feedback like a song in iTune,  or like restaurant in Yelp. The SOHO business will be able to choose freely what to pay for such service, with fair price, like consumer pay for an App on the online store. Such Eco system could have develop in other industry I am not familiar, but in Education industry it sure will happen, MOOC is an example, since we are moving to an software (App) defined world. Maybe some business are already working on this  Eco system that I am not aware, hence I post a question ask for if such thing exist. Not sure if I directly answer your question, but hope this helps.

Can you be more clear what you mean by "cloud coaching?" When I think of  the"cloud," cloud computing is the first thing that comes to mind.Cloud computing: the practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer. Dropbox is an example."Having access to the coach at any time" is problematic for me. I mean, after all, I need to eat, and sleep, and recreate! :-) And when I am not coaching, or doing those things, there is building my business, and my clients, and chores, etc. Being a business coach, also there may be times I need to prepare information for a specific client, so if you're thinking of something that is basically like Quora, but for coaching, where the clients post questions for the coach and the coach answers them privately, you have to do your research to test out the validity and do a TAM analysis.
