Do you have to become a LVN before becoming a RN?

    No you don't however, the responsibilities of an LVN and a RN are essentially the same, that being the RN has to get a BS degree which gives them a little more money, but over all the same job! ***Yes, RN's can get paid a little more, but I was refering to the responsibilities being almost the same. The are allowed to do a little more like hang IV's and do drips, but the position is also more apt for law suits too. So San Jacinto, you must be out in the IE?

Not really the same job, but nursing homes tend to treat LPNs as an RN. Yes, you can become an RN without being an LPN unless there are no traditional RN programs in your area and only LPN to RN programs. Also, the RN programs may utilize waiting lists so you may not be able to start the RN classwork right away.

Absolutely not! I am going straight from CNA to R.N. I believe that the R.N.s have a bit more responsibility and they are allowed to do more medically than LVNs do.
