Is Medical Billing and Coding a good paying job?

What exactly would you like to do with this skill? Would you like to work on Inpatient or Outpatient/ER records? Either way, it is a fair paying job that is in demand as of today. Be careful though, because this field is subject to a lot of automation and offshoring. If you are going to go into this field, go into an aspect of the field that requires you to be onsite at the hospital, and requires you to be hands on with something. Have you investigated college programs regarding this career move? I would not recommend fly by night programs that just concentrate on coding (like 3 month diploma programs). If you were to work in a Health Information Management department, you should at least have an associates degree in Health Info Mgt. While in associates program, you will learn about medical coding and billing, as well as the legalities and functions of the medical record. Investigate your local community college to see if they offer classes for an associates degree in Health Info Mgt. or visit the AHIMA website at www.ahima.org.

No, it is low pay, and needs experience to get hired. But you can do it at home or a second job.
