Is becoming a nurse hard?

  • I want to know if becoming a nurse is hard. I got a C in Bio last year, but Im very interested in becoming a nurse.

    very hard. lots of work, basically consumes your life. but if thats what you want to be, then you will be able to get through it. :) Im in college right now for RPN (registered practical nurse) i am almost done one semester, 3 more to go. im nervous for next semester because i have a calculations dosage class and im horrible at math!! :( OH yeah,, and hopefully you have a strong stomach. lots of gross stuff. haha Mine is stronger than i thought. I never would have thought i would be able to clean adult briefs (diapers). but so far so good.

Nursing is quite stressful and VERY competitive. I applied to a program against 600 other applicants and I was accepted into ONE of the 30 seats available. I feel pretty lucky. It's no joke. I literally have no life and shouldn't even be on here..this is my only escape though..in between studying..which is what I'm doing now. You will cry...eat poorly...lose sleep. IT IS HARD. If you are not passionate about it..you'll hate it and fail. I've seen it happen. EDIT: And yes..the patients can be horrid. But it's the hospitals and insurance companies that really are the bad guys as well. A lot of cattiness. That's why I'm going on to get my MSN...don't want to work beside a bunch of women..I'll be their boss though lol ;)

The nursing field (and the mental health/social services field) is supposed to have a high burn-out rate due to having to deal with patients that may be aggressive, irate and/or belligerent. I believe that they generally say that those considering nursing should be strong in the sciences. Perhaps you can retake the class and see how you do and/or consider another career path.
