What has better job opportunities a medical biller/coder or a dental assistant?

A medical coder is a much better job. A quick internet search shows that a DA makes around $33,000 a year where a coder makes $40,000. Plus, DAs usually do not get insurance, that stand all day and acquire back problems, so you are unable to work after about 5-10 years. And Dentists are pretty bad employers, as most of them are very rude to their staff. If you decide to pursue billing and coding, I would suggest attending your local community or technical school, which will cost WAY less than the private for profit career colleges, their credits are transferable and most offfer online classes. If you are interested in online only I would suggest the coding programs offered by either AHIMA or AAPC, both are under $2,000. And since they are the top coding credentialing organizations in the country, you will get an in depth education. Just a heads up, in this current economic situation, most new grads do have a harder time finding that first job (but so does every other field) Your best bet is to look for any entry level Health Information type job, medical records, billing, account follow up, data entry, etc. Then, after gaining experience, you can move up to a better job.

I think both occupations have good job opportunities, BUT dental assistants will likely pay better and you can continue your education to advance - on to hygienist then dentist. Medical biller is pretty much a dead end job.
