To become a dermatologist assistant, would I need a medical assistant degree or a physician assistant?

That depends entirely on what the dermatologist wants them to do. The MA is an unlicensed, short program, while the PA is a masters degree, licensed, and has full diagnostic and therapeutic abilities. A dermatologist might hire both, either or neither. Your abilities may dictate which one is for you.

My dermatologist and his partners have two physician's assistant on their staff. I'd say, go for the PA.. A medical assistant is not licensed, and cannot do medical procedures.
