What are the pros and cons of a pharmacist?

Pharmacist OR doctor? pros/cons?

  • Pharmacist OR doctor? pros/cons? i have to register for classes soon and I have narrowed down my career choices to becoming a doctor or a pharmacist. what are the pros and cons of ...show more

  • Answer:

You should ask yourself WHY you really want to become a pharmacist or doctor, rather than just wanting a career in one of those areas because you want the pay. Both jobs would have stress-factors of their own; I guess all jobs do. But it is up to you to decide what YOU like, WHY you want to have a career in that path (is it because you have a desire to help? or have a desire to make new drugs to aid in people's health?) And, what are the factors that are making you decide that you want to have a career in that area? (E.g. is it your own choice, and again, why? Is it because that is expected of you by your family, is it because your peers are pressuring you to? Whatever the reason, make sure you UNDERSTAND WHY you want to follow that path) And yes, you may change your mind later onwards during your life, but make sure you always ask yourself the question; "Why do I want to do this? And will i know that I like it?" Life is about living for yourself and for others. Make sure it is something that you enjoy; because, if you enjoy it, you will succeed :) Now, to answer your question :P... Both would be great careers I guess, but then again, it depends on YOUR OWN CHOICE :) To be a doctor- you need to be able to have the guts to LEARN first- looking at dead bodies in the anatomy labs- are you willing to do that? Are you afraid of blood? etc... To be a pharmacist...well I'm not so sure about that one...! Good luck! And if you are in the middle of the HSC or any exam to get into Uni, I wish you all the best for it! :)

A pharmacist will most likely have an easier schedule. As a pharmacist you won't have as much responsibility to the patient.( that isn't to say you wont have any at all though). Also, I doubt a pharmacist will have to deal with blood and bodily fluids on a day to day basis. Lastly, I don't think a pharmacist have as high malpractice insurance premiums. The cons of being a pharmacist is not as much money.

well doctors are usually on call 24/7 whereas pharmacists have relatively permanent hours. doctors get higher pay, but require more schooling. pharmacists would have less stress. as for the business, owning a pharmacy would be a business. i personally would go for pharmacy. its a lot more flexible
