No, they're 2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT JOBS. A medical assistant is a CNA. A Physicians assistant is ALMOST A DOCTOR -- they do and know the same things, but only go to school for 2-3 years vs. 8, and work under a doctor's license. They do all the scut work the doc doesn't want to do, they see patients, diagnose them and write prescriptions. All a medical assistant can do is take someone's blood pressure and say "the doctor will be with you in a minute".

No, a physician assistant is almost that of a doctor in some clinics or even small towns, physician assistant does almost everything a doctor will do, a medical assistant usually works in a doctors office and performs mostly administrative duties, a physician assistant performs physical duties assisting the doctor and in some cases on their own, so you will have to get a degree and additional training for that.
