Would you become a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) if you could not find employment elsewhere?

How do I find out about becoming a CNA- Certified Nursing Assisant?

  • I live in upstate NY.. How long do the courses take?? I've been looking online for days now, and I can't find anything out... Where should I go to find out how to become a CNA

  • Answer:

Contact the Board of Nursing for your state. Thats who does the certification/licensing. When I became a CNA, I applied for a position at the hospital and they put us thru a fast-paced, paid training course to become CNAs. It lasted about 3months exactly. (m-f; 8hrs/day). Definitely call around to medical facilities and ask. Many place will do a paid training course like this, or they will pay for/reimburse you to go to school for this training. Good Luck!

Here's a site to look at. This is How to Become a CNA http://nursingassistantcentral.homestead.com/BecomeaCNA.html Here is a link to some schools with CNA programs http://education-portal.com/certified_nursing_assistant_schools.html Some hospitals and nursing homes will employ you WHILE you become a CNA and pay for classes on the promise that you'll stick with them for a certain period of time after you graduate. Check your local community colleges, universities and technical colleges. This looks like a decent list of schools offering programs, too. http://www.medical-training.info/Nursing_Assistant_Schools.html

I did a quick google search and got these http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=how+to+become+a+CNA%3F&btnG=Google+Search maybe one will help you. You can also ask at any nursing home, hospital or tech school and they could more than likely help you find all you need to know.

Usually you have to have at least 2 years experience in the health care field, such as at a nursing home (most of these jobs only require a drivers license and high school diploma). And then you can go to a Nursing home or hospital and ask if they are having any upcoming CNA training courses.
