  • Answer:

Registered Nurse (RN) is an actual professional license issued by the state you live in, it's not just the title of the position. You can become an RN in the US through one of three routes - Associates Degree in Nursing (typical two-year degree offered at many community colleges) - Bachelor of Science (or Arts) in Nursing (full 4 year college / university program) - diploma in Registered Nursing (a 2-3 year program, usually taught directly by hospitals, does NOT give you a college degree - these programs are becoming harder to find, not many people do this) If you graduate from any of these programs then you are eligible to take the national license exam, the NCLEX-RN. Once you pass that test, you can get your RN license from the state you want to live/work in.
