What does a Physician's assistant do?

What Courses Must One take to become a Physicians Assistant if you already have a Bachelors in Nursing?

  • How long does it take and what credit to you get (if any) for your BS in Nursing?

  • Answer:

You will need to do a full PA program--there is no "credit" for nursing classes, but with a Bachelors you can go direct into a Masters PA program (2-3 years)--it is a dedicated track program. There may or not be some extra pre-req's depending on what classes you took in nursing school--the schools that you are interested in can evaluate that requirement for you. The American Academy of PAs (AAPA.org) also has more info.

I have a friend who is a physicians assistant and she got a bachelors and then went to P.A school for three years in oregon. I would say that the degree you hold is to your benefit but not required! and just for the record, a P.A is one of the hot careers coming up. OH! and did you know that they do 80% of the doctors work. my friend said it was a cool job though and would do it all over again. the pay is also very good. she's making 80K!!!
