Would you become a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) if you could not find employment elsewhere?

Why do people become CNA's (Certified Nursing Assistant's) if they hate the job so much?

  • Every single CNA and Registered Nurse that i hear about always talk about how much they hate their jobs, but yet they still stay in the field. I had cancer last year and the nurses ...show more

  • Answer:

I used to work as a cna. As in any job, you have people that are good at their job and people who are not. I think most people who become nurses or cnas really do care about others and want to help. When you are spread thinly, understaffed and overstressed, it's hard to keep up a compassionate front. I had a nurse actually make fun of me during a hospital stay when I was a teen. I had my hair in hot rollers because I was having visitors that day and she said to another nurse, "Oh what do we have here, how CUTE." People who work closely with others need to really watch their actions and their mouth. Health care work is a stressful job and it's not for everyone. I'm sorry about your illness and how you were treated. "had attitudes for no reason at all" Really, do you know what their co-workers were like, how they were treated by their supervisor, what other kinds of people they were dealing with and how many, how many hours they were putting in a day/week, if they had to work overtime? What their home life was like? If a group of people like office workers were judged on attitude it would suck. Nurses and cnas are judged on their people skills and their work performance.

the money. nurses make bookoo money and cna's make at least above minimum wage. it beats factory work but is hard on your back and is very stressful. nurses dont have set hours. they have to stay till the work is done if not their license is at jeapordy. ive seen nurses work 16 hours a day 6 days a week.

This is a very true and sad thing, it pays more than min wage that is the bottom line but if that is the only reason someone gets into it for they will not last you have to really have your heart and soul into it or you will not survive
