What's the difference between an RN and a BSN?

Whats the difference between an RN who completed the RN program at a university vs an RN at a community colleg?

  • is it the same or is it different? an rn is an rn, right? thanks

  • Answer:

The difference is two additional years of education for the BSN that includes nursing research, public health and leadership training. The BSN is better prepared academically to step into Master's programs and management positions. Yes, we all take the same test, get the same license, and (generally) make the same money.

At best, the community college grad has an AS. The university grad probably has a BSN. A BSN will earn more money and have greater opportunities.

Initially, none. You would be able to get a job in the field. However, if you want to go into a supervisory position, it's best to go for your BSN at some point.

You can get an AS [associates in science] at a community college and a BS [bachelors in science] at a university. You typically would get paid higher with a higher degree.
