Thinking of applying to nursing school. Nurses: Do you enjoy your job? Pros/Cons?

Answer:
My daughter in law is a nurse & loves it. Pro's - she gets 4 days off a week- con she works 3 - 12 hour a day shifts in a row. Cons: Weekends, nights, holidays have to be worked when you are a new nurse (she works days now but took a few years). Pro: Everyday is different & you are always helping people. Con: you're going to lose patients sometimes.. can be very hard. Good luck!

If a nurse could just take care of their patients, I would love it, I've been a nurse for 35 years. Things have really changed! You just don't just take care of people, there are a lot of politics involved. You have to follow state/federal guidelines that are forever changing. Nursing is very demanding and it's not the patients, it's the gov, you work with.

I am nurse and I LOVE LOVE my job. I wouldn't do anything else. Here is an interview I found between a nurse and student asking her about her job. You may find it helpful. http://www.registerednursern.com/interview-with-a-registered-nurse-interview-questions-to-ask-a-nurse/ Also I haven't be a nurse for a long time so I know how it is getting through nursing school....it is still fresh on my mind. I recommend you read "How to Pass Nursing" by S.L Page (a nurse). It talks about how to apply, increase your chances of getting in, everything you must do to prepare for it, how to pass classes, what nursing school and clinicals are like etc. I think you can get it off Amazon.com (link below)

You have to like people and be very patient. When people are sick, they're angry sometimes because their bodies are betraying them and they now need help from strangers. They can take that anger out on nurses. And some patients are very fearful. You'll run the gamut of emotions, from the joy of birth to the sadness of death. It will be your job to prepare a body after death. It's a tough profession. It pays well in most states but you have to have a mental toughness about you. I don't like that much patient contact so I chose to work in a different area of the medical field. Know your limitations and decide.
