First, I would recommend looking into nursing programs you may be interested in. Every program has different requirements and different lengths of schooling. They should have information on their website and also offer info sessions periodically. You can find programs through collegeboard.com Typical prerequisites for nursing programs include English, college algebra, statistics, psychology, sociology, nutrition, anatomy and physiology 1 and 2, chemistry, and microbio. These vary from school to school. Usually it takes about two years. For nursing programs themselves, there are associate and bachelor programs. Associates are going to be two years, so approximately 4 years including prerequisites. Bachelors are going to be 2.5-3 years plus prerequisites, so about 4.5-5 years. Again, this varies by school. You need to do the prerequisites required and then apply for the nursing program. There may also be an entrance test which would be needed before applying. Nursing programs are very competitive, so keep your GPA as high as possible. I estimate at least a 3.3 to be competitive. I would encourage you to volunteer at your local hospital. You can see what it's like to be a nurse and get a feel for the hospital environment. Also, the website below will provide additional information for you. Source(s): bls.gov/oco/ocos083.htm Also, the school you posted above looks fine. However, the distance learning is only for those who are already licensed RNs. You're going to have to choose one of their other programs from the choices on the left side.

You have to take a four-year nursing degree program, then get licensed. Here are the steps, simplified: 1) Qualify for a BSN program by taking all the prerequisite classes (1-2 years). 2) Take the core BSN program (2-3 years). 3) Do a clinical externship (a few weeks). 4) Take the licensing exam for your state (a few hours). Boom. Nurse.

I don't know what area of the country you live in, but in Texas the University of Texas has one of the best nursing programs in the country. When you enroll in college and declare your major to be nursing, you will need to meet with a nursing adviser to plan your studies. I hope your proficient in math and science as this major requires quite a lot. If you are truly dedicated to the idea of becoming an RN I would advise even considering a Masters degree. You will be making a wonderful career choice. Good luck and great choice!

you don't need a Bachelors degree to be an RN - it's a 2 yr program - most people who go for a Bachelors in Nursing wind up being supervisors, and don't do a whole lot of actual nursing go to a nursing school or community college for a nursing degree (cheaper than a 4 yr school for all the classes) - take and pass test - you're a nurse look for schools in YOUR area naturally
