No. It will be yet another "new" document that officers won't bother to read. I highly doubt it brings anything new to the table but it has the illusion of being something ground breaking being brought in by the government to fix policing.

Too late. The Genie's already out of the bottle.

People are people (and yes,Police Officers are people, not machines) and as such, it is human nature to lie when you deem it necessary. Thankfully the vast majority aren't like that, no matter what the media and anti brigade say. The difference with Police is when found out, they have a lot more to lose than others. And don't forget, when accused of something, they differ in that they have to prove their innocence as opposed to the general populace who are presumed innocent.

It wouldn't make a bit of difference. They would still act as if they were above the law. The courts almost always side with the corrupt police too. It would just be a waste of paper!

'I do solemnly and sincerely declare and affirm that I will well and truly serve the Queen in the office of constable, with fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality, upholding fundamental human rights and according equal respect to all people; and that I will, to the best of my power, cause the peace to be kept and preserved and prevent all offences against people and property; and that while I continue to hold the said office I will to the best of my skill and knowledge discharge all the duties thereof faithfully according to law.' That's the one I took - let's see if she can come up with something better. Of course, if somebody chooses to break their oath, what they've sworn to do or not do will make no difference.

Günther Bischoff

No if someone is dishonest then they will think nothing of breaking an oath. Stronger punishments may serve as a deterrent though

It won't matter unless not honoring that code results in something other than a few paid days off. They should be held to a higher standard, they recieve enhanced protection by law in the form of stiffer penalties for those accused of assualting them...OR THEIR DOGS. I think that should be a two way street. If an officer of the law is charged with battery, assualt or whatever HIS penalty should be tougher than that of a civilian. Their not all bad and I wouldn't want the job but alot of these guys become police for reasons other than to 'serve and protect'

If they have too they have too I have no opinion really.

Police have had some poor performing officers who have tarnished the whole image of the Police. They have not taken action to deal with them preferring to cover up and deny the actions of these officers. There has been a serious failure at a senior level in the Police. This has badly damaged the Public opinion of the Police and they now need to mend that image. This will also remind all Officers of their responsibility to serve the public.
