Is it hard finding a job as a nurse right out of college?

    If your GPA is not good now, you won't be accepted into the nursing program itself. The pre-nursing year will weed you out without wasting your parents' money on four years of school (unless the other answer that stated the board exam will do that). You need to focus on what you are doing * right now * before school starts again in a few weeks. If you don't turn your study habit around, you will drop out and break your mother's heart. So sorry to have been so blunt. I don't believe being coddled will get the message across. p.s. Yes, GPA is important. A lot of new grads are being asked to show their transcript.

This varies by region and degree. Here in Texas a RN/BSN can secure a job after graduation but before even taking the NCLEX, but RN's with an Associate degree aren't as in demand. However, I've heard it's hard for all RN's to find work in NY - although I don't know that for a fact. The employer doesn't care about your GPA. The NCLEX will weed out those who can't make it. 3 years from now if jobs aren't plentiful where you live, working with your mother would be a good way to get some experience.
