Answer:
the long waiting list is a supply/demand issue. the male to women ratio is not discrimination issue. just job issue. the programs are competitive - simple. do take some time looking at other way to increase income while waiting or different path.

It depends on the waiting list at your school ask the school your going to the approximate wait time to get into the program is, and so many people drop out cause they can't handle it or its to hard I waited three weeks when they told me 2-4 months hope this helps just keep studying and doing refreshers so in the mean time you are ready when you enter the program and anither thing you will always have a job wherever you go and nurses are in such demand so it might work in your favor good luck

Funny how someone gave all thumbs down to the answers who correctly stated that a persons gender has no bearing on admissions preference. It's true. The lack of males in programs is not because programs discriminate against men; men simply are not applying to the programs in the same numbers as women. If a man meets the entrance criteria, they are admitted. Most programs don't even have an interview process, it's all based on academic performance and perhaps a written personal statement on why they are choosing nursing. To accept a person based on the fact that in that particular program the persons gender is in the minority would be discrimination, and that's definitely illegal. You will be required to get your CNA license before starting any nursing courses. Just completing the course won't be good enough, you almost always must have the license - check with your school of choice to see what their policy is. How long it takes to get in varies from school to school, obviously. Just start researching programs in your area and ask the admissions reps directly how many students apply vs. how many get accepted, whether they have a wait list and if you're on it are you guaranteed admission the following term, what's the average GPA of admitted students, etc. Base your choice on what program you think you will stand the best chance at getting into based on those answers.
