  • Answer:

Jonathan is wrong on this one. A registered nurse has passed the NCLEX exam and been registered & licensed by the state--that is credentialing & has nothing to do with where & how they work. A nurse is either a RN or a LVN. "Staff" nurse has to do where they work--a staff nurse is essentially a floor nurse--a basic nurse, not being management or education etc. So a staff nurse can be a RN or an LVN. You can have staff nurses in the OR, the ER, the Labor floor etc--they are all the nurses you generally see in hospitals.

Staff nurse are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, they provides direct professional nursing care to patients. Registered nurse is employed by medical facility who does not assist in surgery.
