Do I have to become a LPN to become a RN?

LPN student wondering how hard it is in the future to become a RN in the future?

  • I am a LPN student wondering how hard it is in the future to become a RN in the future. Is it worth doing LPN first or just doing the RN program. Also I was wondering if I did take ...show more

  • Answer:

I am in LPN school too. I would be in the RN program, but my school does not offer it. I always heard it's best just go go straight through to RN. However, when you get your LPN, you can finish it in about the same time as taking them separately. Good luck to you. To add, RN's have a FEW things we won't be able to do. Just because of our degree. To add, they make up to as TWICE as much as we will. So I recommend going for your RN. I plan to.

yes, it does..being an lpn and an rn are no different..the job functions are the same..altho, being an rn pays more... if you have lpn courses, the program will definately be shorter..good luck.

You don't mention whether you're attending a school of nursing or a college program. A college program for LPN will usually offer the RN option and your credits will transfer. It's worth it to go on for your RN as long as you're certain that nursing is the career for you...but if you have doubts, work as an LPN for a couple of years and get the experience. Then if you decide to go on for RN...it will be time and money well spent. I wish you the best...good nurses are NEEDED!!!

All that you will gain by becoming LPN first is practical nursing experience and the development of bad habits. You will need to repeat all of your clinical experiences for your RN. It will be as though you were never a nurse prior to seeking your RN.

AN RN AND AN LPN ARE VERY DIFFERENT. IF YOU WANT TO WORK IN LABOR AND DELIVERY, ER OR TRAUMA, YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR RN. LPN'S ARE FLOOR NURSES OR WORK IN NURSING HOMES. THEY WORK UNDER AN RN AND CANNOT GIVE NARCOTICS. BEING AN RN OPENS ALOT MORE DOORS IN TERMS OF JOB AVAILABLITY AND CAREER ADVANCEMENT. MOST SCHOOLS HAVE A PROGRAM TO BRIDGE FROM LPN TO RN. CHECK YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE.
