RN salary question?

Does an RN with an BS degree make more thank RN with an associates?
-
Answer:
Where I work, there is no salary differential for obtaining a BSN. However, there are many jobs that will require the BSN. So unless you are certain you don't want to do anything besides work at the bedside, you would be well advised to get the BSN.

Noppers..Depends on job title and institution.. That said..Many management RN positions want the bS degree...But will waiive for lots of experience in the field. I personally did not get my BS(although I HAD the credits for it) becuase I prefer patient care and management & education of new grads on the floor .. And..the more education you get the less chance of doing direct patient care. It's all about your own choice. Truthfully if I was starting out(have 41 years in) in current time..I'd get my AA..then go for my nurse practioner..You make more money..have flexible hours..and more contrtol in patient care field to do holisitic and preventative methology which is GREATLY NEEDED!!You can even own your own indeoendant practice. Food for thought. Best of luck, Nurse Andrea RN

In my area, there is no difference in starting salary between the two for new grads. So, I don't think that it matters much. I have really researched this quite a lot and talked to a lot of people, and the only tangible advantage for getting the BSN is to advance to the master's degree level. Most MSN programs (but not all) require the BSN for entry to the program. So, if you are planning to go to the master's degree level, then the BSN is something to be planning for. I intend to move on to that with a bridge program because I want to go to the graduate level. On the other hand, if you do not intend to do that, then really there is no difference in terms of entry level salary (though I am sure all sorts out there will say that there is...I have personally talked to quite a few nursing administrators, educators, and line level nurses about this, and the responses have been the same...there is no difference between an ADN and BSN prepared nurse, except for movement to the graduate level.

Yes, and they have more advancement opportunities.
