Why don't a medical coder and biller with an associates degree make just as much as a RN with one?

    It's not supply and demand. The programs are nothing the same. You can take a 4week class and earn a medical billing and coding certificate. 95% of the program is learning how to code which is becoming familiar with the insurance terminology. Yes, you need to learn basic information about anatomy and physiology. Probably not anything more than a 4th grader who is interested in the body and science. Your friend took many of the same classes as an RN because of the applied science program. Not because of the medical billing & coding specialist.

The same classes? Really? I don't remember very many medical coding and billing students at the hospital learning how to anchor Foleys, suction trachs or empty colostomy bags. Equally educated you say?

Supply and demand. There are more demand for nurses. Medical billers/coders have become a dime-a-dozen.

An economist would say "supply and demand". Employers need to offer more money to get enough people to fill the demand for RNs. I'll just add that RNs are responsible for life and health. Medical coders just do paperwork.
