How safe is a career as a CNA in a nursing home?

Is becoming a CNA before pursuing a nursing career a good way to determine if you should go into nursing?

  • I love nursing and would ultimately love to be a neo-natologist.

  • Answer:

Oh my god yea! I wanted to be a nurse but i figured i was putting the cart ahead of the horse, so I've been a cna for four years and that career went out the window three and a half years ago. Everyone is different but for me its not what i wanted after all. I'm in school and staying in the medical field but staying away from nursing. Good Luck

You might want to check into your local nursing program. We have several in my area that are requiring you to have a current state certification in order to apply for a nursing program. From what I have been told, you will not do the same thing as a nurse, but you will get to see what they do and talk to them with any questions that you might have. Good Choice and Good Luck.

Ok if you want to feel the burden of the nurses. But I would definitely go research. I have directed clients to pursue their goals and dreams and one of those clients was unsure of being a nurse because her family kept insisting that she would eventually get stressed-out. My job was to get her to surround herself with people in the field; so she did as we planned and she has completed nursing school and works in a major hospital. If you have an interest in nursing because you like working with people, babies, and doctors and can take lots of stress, then go for it.

Possibly....if you don't mind cleaning up poop and stuff....i am in nursing school, and i wish i had been a CNA first because i cannot handle poop.....that sounds stupid, but i really need to be around it more so i can get used to it..... cuz poop happens!!!!! Seriously....if you like it that much, you should definitely pursue anything and everything good luck

CNA's like nurses, git pretty much the grunt work. CNA's i found do more of it then nurses do. So if you can hack being a CNA. Nursing is right up ur alley.

I think so. You will get the chance to have good experience for school if you choose to go that route. CNA's that have gone to school have already learned so much before school plus You will see all the good and bad parts of the job. Just remember there are good and bad points to EVERY job. Nursing is not the same as CNA work either. Talk to your coworkers about their duties. Nursing is a very rewarding job and if you like helping people it will warm your heart.
